Instructor Spotlight – Sharing 28 Years of Expertise

July 2, 2025

At Academy 147, our instructors are more than just trainers; they’re trusted mentors with real-world experience. In this spotlight, we meet Stephane RUH, a Dassault Falcon instructor whose avionics journey spans nearly three decades. His hands-on knowledge, built on 28 years in the business jet industry, brings technical training to life and shapes the next generation of aircraft technicians.

From Military Foundations to a Career in Aviation

Stephane’s path began with a technical baccalaureate in France, followed by mandatory military service.

“I had the chance to join a fighter squadron in the French Air Force. That’s where I got my first real contact with aircraft – touching them, hearing the loud sound of engines, and smelling the burned kerosene.”

This early exposure sparked a lifelong career.

“That’s where the idea of working on A/C came. I looked for a school teaching how to become an A/C technician, and it started from there.”

With advancements in avionics and aircraft systems, Stephane has seen the role of the technician evolve dramatically.

“Aircraft are more and more equipped with computers. Today, it’s not just fixing components, it’s understanding the data. The work now is about interpreting signals to find the root cause of a problem. It’s a new kind of communication. The classic way of troubleshooting has shifted toward system diagnostics and digital thinking.”

This deep understanding of avionics systems is exactly what Steph brings to the classroom.

Why Academy 147 Training Stands Out?

“One of the strengths here is that many of us, myself included, worked physically on aircraft. We’re not just teaching theory; we’re bringing decades of real-world troubleshooting experience.”

That means students gain practical insight on common pitfalls, smarter ways to perform tasks, and how to think like a technician in the field.

“We show them not just how to remove or install something, but how to prevent mistakes before they happen.”

For Stephe, one of the most important lessons he teaches isn’t in the manual; it’s about responsibility.

“Especially for younger students, I try to show the importance of their decisions. When you sign off on an aircraft, you’re saying everything was done correctly. You’re the one putting the A/C back in the air. And if something goes wrong, you’ll be the first person asked to explain why.”

This message stays with students long after they leave the classroom.

Advice for Future Avionics Technicians

“It’s a long journey, getting your license, completing your on-the-job training, earning your first aircraft type endorsement. But all these efforts are worth it when you walk on the tarmac, enter the cockpit, and press the engine start button. That moment… it makes everything worthwhile.”

At Academy 147, instructors like Stephane embody our commitment to excellence. Through decades of avionics expertise and a passion for teaching, they ensure our students are not only technically skilled but ready for the responsibility that comes with keeping aircraft safe, efficient, and airworthy.
